Here I will give you a little insight into the Buddhapadipa Thai Temple London. There is much to say and a million images to show regarding this special space for Thais and Buddhists in London SW19. The temple is Anglo Thai design and built with materails of both countries. The mural art work which fills the main hall and wings represents the life and previous ten lives of the Buddha Guatama. A fine art masterpiece , a revelation in art of the Buddhas teachings and there essential meanings, so profound as to be hardly understood by the average Thai. Step inside the hall and gaze up at the walls and wonder, each time you look something else will avail itself of you.

The artwork of the Thai Temple
This sequence begins with the main hall. The work there was designed by two of Thailands great modern (fine art) artists. It is set in two parts and shows contrasting styles of Chilum Chai and Panya. The main wall behind the statues and to the left wall (as viewed from the entrance) to the left corner of the hall is by Chilum Chai. The opposite wall with the main entrance wall is by Panya. The murals are significant and relevant to the teachings of the Buddha, never the less they remain highly profound and do not yield easily to interpretation. The images are taken from the life of the Buddha. These images are a brief introduction to that great work. The openning sequence begins with the main wall and the murals to the left, by Chilum Chai.

Loy Kratong 007
His Majesty King Bhumipol Adulyadej eightieth birthday is celebrated this year with a special royal edition of Loy Kratong festival at the Buddaphadipa Thai temple on the 18th of November. His majesties birthday falls on the 5th of December and celebrations will continue.
The temple was royaly decked out with the finest decorations and exhibits, an exhibition detailing the kings life and his work, there was also a large entourage of monks to
perform religious devotions throughout the day, culminating with the Khatina robe service which was offered by Her royal highness princess Soam Sawali on behalf of His Majesty King Bhumipol Adulyadej.
The Loy Kratong festival was well supported and the grounds were alive with people, enjoying fine foods and entertainment. For the first time ever there was no beauty contest, due to it being a Royal occasion entertainment was layed on for the princess and the event was meant to finish with the princess floating a Kratong on the fish pond, unfortunately inclement weather precluded the act. The day was extraordinary, rarely has the 'Wat' looked so much like a hollywood film set; fantastic costumes mixing with community dignitaries, royals, spicey foods, curiosity seekers, film crews and snappers chasing every act, so as to bring the event to the media for all the world to see. It was like a day trip to hollywood, a memorable spectacle, a fun day out for all.
